It's asserted there are at least 15 families continually in Colchester for over 150 years. It is greatly appreciated when families share their tales.
The descendants of Deacon Henry Marvin provided by Eleanor Marvin Keller
The Marvin family of Colchester started with the immigration of two brothers, Matthew and Reynold, who came to Hartford from England during the middle 1630’s. Deacon Henry Marvin and his wife Frances moved to Colchester prior to 1860 and settled on what we know as Marvin Road, becoming a farmer. They had four children, one of which, Wilbert Henry, married Flora Edith Keigwin and had two sons, Dwight and Wilbert. Dwight married Celia Rathbone of Salem and they had nine children, eight of whom married and settled in Colchester. Dwight built and operated Marvin’s Midway Garage for many years and he also served as Judge of Probate in Colchester. Wilbert married Isabelle Ploszaj of Salem and after partnership with his brother initially, now owns and operates Marvin’s Toyota., He served 20 years on the Colchester Board of Education, 12 years as its Chairman. They have three children, two of whom are in business with them, as well as two of their grandchildren. Loren, son of Dwight, was the first full—time First Selectman, having served 12 years. He is a World War II veteran of the Air Force, served 25 plus years as member and Chairman of the Borough of Colchester Water Board, is a Hayward Fire Dept. volunteer, and Deacon Emeritus of the Colchester Federated Church. He owned and operated D. H. Marvin & Son, Inc., a John Deere dealership, in Colchester until his retirement in 1986. John and Sarah Marvin, recent arrivals in Colchester, are cousins, making a grand total of 85 Marvin descendants living or doing business in Colchester.
