Prior to the early 1960's, the Bacon Academy Board of Trustees was responsible for all aspects of running the Academy.  Their primary duties included tasks such as; hiring staff, setting curriculum, setting tuition, raising funds, managing the Bacon Endowment and maintaining buildings and land owned by Bacon Academy.

The role of the Trustees changed in the early 1960's when the Colchester Board of Education assumed responsibilities to educate High School aged children.

The Bacon Academy Board of Trustees still has many duties and responsibilities.  In general, they preserve Bacon Academy history, take care of the buildings and property of the Bacon Academy Endowment. Those assets include:

  • Old Bacon Academy

  • Day Hall

  • DAR House- AKA Nathaniel Foote house (oldest house in Colchester)

  • Cutler House

  • Arts and Science Building; Senior Center

  • Southern half of the Town Green

The following are examples over the years of their efforts to preserve our history.

1965: Historic burial grounds repaired after years of neglect.

2003:
