Bacon Academy first opened in 1803 with $35,000 donated by Pierpont Bacon. What is now known as the "old" Bacon Academy building served as Colchester's high school until 1962.

Bacon Academy has a deep and rich history.  We plan to offer many "did you know ?" types of stories.  Bacon Academy was one of the first schools to educate "The Negro" in the country.  Bacon Academy attendees and graduates influenced everything from major league baseball to the fledgling Republican Party.

The first major publication of Bacon Academy's history?  This magazine from 1896 offers 21 pages of great detail plus many, many pictures and illustrations.
