1950-1960
The Colchester Citizen was owned by Curtis Johnson Publishing, Inc. It had principal offices on Lebanon Avenue until 1960. It's masthead reflected the times. It showed the rubber tire, plow, rifle and fishing rod. The following headlines were photographed with the permission of the owner of a private collection. February 14, 1958- Colchester teachers asking for $4,000 Salary Schedule February 13, 1959- School spending lags state February 13, 1959-taxes going up and up December 24, 1959- Route 2 awaits warm spell. October 14, 1959- Grad's plan would save the Academy March 4, 1960- Bacon future may rest in courts April 1, 1960- Bacon, Central staffs get pay boost. Bacon Principal given $600 raise for a $9,000 annual salary.
