For over twenty years, the Town of Colchester has been actively involved preserving our past. In the 1980's, the Town residents enacted an ordinance to create a Historic District and Historic Commission. In 1991, it funded the Lusignan survey to document our Town's History and Historical Buildings. This document is the most complete sources of our history. Since 1991, the Town has initiated a broad range of actions to preserve Colchester's history. All of these actions are well documented in the Town's Historic Preservation Plan. Please click this link for a PDF copy of this plan. (1)
All of the Town's work was rewarded in 1998. It was these efforts that led to Colchester being awarded the first local preservation award from the state of Connecticut.
